Origins of our Name

Our name came from the location of our first gathering, on a street named after the mythological Roman god of the sea; Neptune. Printing the name of the Sea god Neptune onto invitations to the ladies; I wondered if there was a goddess in the mythology, and discovered that sure enough there is! So it is after Salacia, the Roman goddess of the Sea; and Neptune’s female counterpart, that the network name was born.

Neptune is the god of the sea, but who is the goddess?

Salacia is the female divinity of the sea, the goddess of Salt Water; who presided over the depths of the ocean. Salacia was the personification of the calm and sunlit aspect of the sea. Derived from Latin sāl, meaning "salt", the name Salācia denotes the wide, open sea, and is sometimes literally translated as "the salty one".
